Thank you to all the list members on Sub-Arch who suggested web sites to us. We would especially like to thank Dr. Martin H. Evans, and the list owner, Anita Cohen-Williams.
This Web site began as a project for a class entitled "Internet Resources and Services" taught in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, at the University of Texas - Austin. We chose the term "underwater" in order to include any archaeology done underwater.

According to the Facts on File Dictionary of Archaeology (1983) page 527, the term "underwater archaeology"
is preferable to the more restricted terms marine or maritime archaeology, since it includes the examination of submerged settlement sites under freshwater lakes, as well as the examination of harbour works and shipwrecks under the sea...
